Honeymoon, England VII - Canterbury Cathedral (inside)

The first thing to know about Canterbury Cathedral is that it is huge, I mean massive. For those who went to Ireland, know that that it makes St. Patrick's in Dublin look like a quaint country church.

This is about 1/4 of the church, and all I could really fit in the frame.

About 1/3 in looking back at the narthex.

The previous picture was taken from the archway here, which I initially thought was near the end of the building.

I was very wrong. This is the quire (choir) just through the archway in the previous photo. Around 3.30 in the afternoon, we were pleasantly surprised to be able to sit and hear Evensong by the all boys/mens choir. For both of us, this was a real highlight of the trip! Simply beautiful.

Finally, at the end looking back to the huge stain glass window from the first shot. Our jaws were on the floor, even Kristina, who has been to St. Peter's in Rome.

  1. I read this post hours ago, and my brain is still trying to process just how massive this building is.
